NEW DELHI, June 24, 2025
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has intensified efforts to ensure effective implementation of the UMEED Portal—a centralized digital platform aimed at modernizing the management of Waqf properties across India.
The Ministry announced on Sunday that all registered Waqf properties must be mandatorily uploaded on the portal within six months. The portal, launched on June 6, is part of the government’s broader move to bring transparency, digital efficiency, and better governance to the administration of Waqf assets.
To monitor progress, Minority Affairs Secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar visited Mumbai on June 21, following a similar review in Bihar last week. He held a comprehensive meeting with the Maharashtra State Waqf Board, state officials, and the CEO of the board.
During the meeting, Kumar assured that new rules to support the portal’s legal requirements would be rolled out soon. He invited suggestions from state authorities to streamline portal implementation and promised to sympathetically examine requests for easing leasing norms concerning Waqf properties.
Kumar also reviewed the status of PMJVK (Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram) projects and directed Maharashtra officials to submit all pending proposals within a week.
Additionally, he met with officials of the Haj Committee of India, congratulating them on the smooth conduct of Haj 2025, which recorded the lowest number of deaths and health incidents among Indian pilgrims. He attributed this to improved coordination and the success of the Haj Suvidha App.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to both transparent Waqf management and a dignified Haj experience, asserting that the UMEED portal is a historic step toward digital empowerment for India’s Muslim community.
