Kahara, June 24 – A serious altercation broke out between the civil administration and local residents in Kahara near Indloo today, during an attempted eviction operation. Tensions flared as the administration, accompanied by police personnel, moved to demolish a structure allegedly built illegally on government land.
According to local sources, including the former BDC Chairperson of Kahara, the house in question belonged to a very poor family from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community. She told News18 that the locals resisted the demolition, citing humanitarian concerns and accusing the administration of targeting the marginalized while ignoring alleged violations by influential parties in the vicinity, particularly a nearby stone crusher unit.
“The administration shows no concern for the activities of the crusher owner, who appears to be well-connected, but acts swiftly against the poor,” the ex-BDC member stated. She described the incident as deeply unfortunate and reflective of a broader injustice.
In response, Tehsildar Kahara, speaking to reporters over the phone, clarified that the demolition was part of a legally sanctioned eviction process. He said that three notices had already been served to the occupants. “Today was our third visit for eviction, and it involved both civil and police administration,” he said.
The situation escalated into a confrontation, leaving four individuals injured, including the Tehsildar himself and some of his staff. The Tehsildar is currently admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Thathri for treatment.
Authorities are reportedly assessing the situation, and further action may be taken following a detailed review of the incident.
