Jammu: Reacting strongly to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, senior BJP leader and party spokesperson Dr Tahir Chowdhary on Wednesday said Omar is trying to mislead the people and divert attention from real issues by playing politics over a sensitive matter.
“Omar Abdullah is fooling the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He fought the J&K Assembly elections under the constitutional framework of a Union Territory, and now suddenly he’s trying to stir emotions for political mileage,” Dr Chowdhary said.
He was responding to Omar Abdullah’s comments in Gulmarg, where the National Conference leader said he had “no objection” if the Assembly is dissolved and fresh elections are held after the restoration of statehood.
“Omar failed to deliver tall promises which made during poll campaigns. He has now resorted to making provocative statements just to stay politically relevant,” Chowdhary added.
The BJP spokesperson reiterated that the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah have clearly assured the nation that Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood will be restored at an appropriate time.
“The government is working with a vision of inclusive development, peace, and prosperity in J&K. Statehood will be returned, but not at the whims of politicians who lost ground. It will be done in national interest, not for political convenience,” Dr Chowdhary said.
Dr Chowdhary said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are now more politically aware than ever before and won’t be swayed by outdated rhetoric. “The future of J&K lies in progress, not propaganda,” he concluded.
