First merit list for UG courses in JK to release on Aug 16

The first merit list for admission to various undergraduate (UG) courses in degree colleges of Jammu and Kashmir will be released on August 16. Friday was the last date to apply on the joint portal created for admissions. However, earlier the last date to apply was August 5 and on the demand of the students, the last date was extended by six days.
The entire admission process is being done on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)- Undergraduate portal i.e. jkadmission.smarth.ac.in. Along with this, those students who could not appear for the CUET for one reason or the other have been given a chance to apply. Arrangements have been made in the portal for those who had appeared and who didn’t take part in the entrance test. After the release of the merit list, the students will reach the respective colleges and take admission by paying the fees. If a student does not get the subject of his choice, he can lock his or her seat by paying Rs 2,000 and wait for the subject of his or her choice.
And, in case a student gets the subject of his or her choice, Rs 2000 paid for locking the seat will be returned to him or her. Students will be benefited by this kind of arrangement of the Higher Education Department.
It is to be noted here that it is for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, admission is being done through University Entrance Test – Undergraduate under the National Education Policy 2020. About 97 thousand students appeared for the test. The admission process is being done simultaneously in the colleges under Jammu University, Kashmir University, Cluster University of Jammu and Cluster University of Kashmir.
The Higher Education Department will later arrange admission for those students who could not give the entrance test due to the setting up of examination centers outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. After completing the admission process in the colleges in the month of August, arrangements will be made to start classes in September. Since the National Education Policy has been implemented, the duration of the honours degree in colleges will be of four years.
