As thousands J&K-ites are expressing joy over fresh snowfall after long dry weather in the region. The same can’t be said for residents of last village of Handwara’s Langate for whom snow is proving kryptonite because villagers have been struggling to de-freeze frozen PHE water pipes to have access to water for daily use.

Several Langate residents in Handwara of Kupwara district are suffering to melt frozen water pipes by burning firewood on PHE water-pipe lines. The video of the incident is doing rounds on the internet.

“We formed a committee today and went to the PHE office to save our jobs. We appeal to authorities to change the pipes to reduce our suffering in the coming days”, a local PHE employee told media.

The villagers have appealed to local administration to help them so that they can avail water.
