Internet services suspended in Poonch, Rajouri

Aman Zutshi

The authorities on Wednesday morning suspended internet services in J&K’s twin border districts of Poonch & Rajouri after the central govt provided Scheduled Tribe status to Paharis, Padari, Koli and Gadda Brahmins for reservations in the UT.

Security measures were also tightened in different areas of the two regions. The local cops and CRPF personnel were deployed at different places to maintain law & order.

Sources have said that the internet services were discontinued for a short period of time, but there is no official word that the net services have been restored in the Pir-Panjal regions or not.

However, the union govt has said that decision would not impact the reservation of Gujjars and Bakarwals.

A protest was also staged yesterday by Gujjar and Bakarwal students at Jammu university claiming that the ST status to others is injustice to them.
