Leopard died in snare, another rescued in Ramnagar

In an incident of poaching, a leopardess was found dead while another one was rescued after getting entangled in wire snares at Balandh village of Ramnagar tehsil of J&K Udhampur district late night at 2am.

After getting specific information regarding poaching of two leopardesses, the officials of Udhampur Wildlife Department swung into action and rushed to the forest spot and found a leopardess died in a snare and rescued another one and sent it for treatment.

Wildlife Warden Jammu Vijay Kumar,SFS and Range Officer Wildlife Range Udhampur Rakesh Sharma told media that late night at 2am they got inputs of a leopardess trapped in a snare in Ramnagar forest range and when they went there with Udhampur police, they found one feline dead and rescued another from the trap.

The forest department official has said that it is a violation of Wildlife Protection Act,1972 to lay snares and the accused person will face legal actions.

A case FIR under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act,1972 lodged at Udhampur police station.
