Jammu, August 11:

Observing that the support of every section of society is a must to eradicate the menace of drug addiction, Mufti Nazir Ahmed Qasmi, head of Darul Uloom Qasima, Bandipora expressed his grave concern over the spread of this deadly virus in Kashmir Valley.
In a bid to end the drug menace in the valley and bring light awareness among people, Mufti Nazir guest of ‘Salam Jk’ show broadcasted on Gulistan channel, an ongoing ‘No to drugs’ campaign of JK Media, stated that earlier there used to be brotherhood among people of Kashmir and the Valley was known for its hospitality all over the world. But in recent years the drug menace has shrouded the valley rendering it to darkness.

Quoting some religious teachings, he said that Islam clearly prohibits the consumption of liquor and any other form of drugs, and anyone involved in this shameful business becomes part of eternal damnation by ruining his family and society as the whole.
Citing the importance of awareness in coming out of this drug-related menace, Mufti Nazir Ahmed Qasmi asserted that parents should monitor the activities of their children and try to inculcate high morals in them. A youth forum should be made and counselling programs should be held from time to time for the youth of the valley.

Describing his contribution in this matter he stated that he is working at the individual level to raise awareness about the matter and has been visiting the centres to help the addicted youth walk on the right path again. Along with this he said that Masjid committees are doing pretty well in bringing the gullible youth back on the life track.

It is to be noted that the valley of Jammu and Kashmir is located near the Golden Crescent covering Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, and due to this the notorious drug nexus is working at its peak level to deviate the youth by making them addicted to drugs. Masjid committees, enforcement agencies, and state administration should work in coordination to bring an end to this menace.
