Farooq Abdullah Confirms Candidacy for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections : National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah announced on Monday that he will contest the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a party function in Doda district, Abdullah expressed confidence that the Election Commission would announce the poll dates between August 21 and 25, emphasising that the NC is fully prepared for the elections.
While Abdullah confirmed his participation, he declined to reveal the constituency he plans to contest, stating, “A general does not reveal his strategy, and I am also a general, prepared to fight.”
Regarding his son, Omar Abdullah, the former chief minister noted that Omar has chosen not to contest the elections under the current setup, insisting that he would only participate after the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah expressed his belief that the NC would form the next government independently, relying solely on the support of Allah.
Addressing the pressing issues of unemployment and inflation, Abdullah remarked that these challenges are not only plaguing Jammu and Kashmir but the entire country. He also clarified a previous statement in which he said hell is awaiting Muslims affiliated with the BJP, explaining that while the NC was part of the NDA government from 1998 to 2002, they have not aligned with the BJP under the current circumstances.
In a call to action, Abdullah urged the people to remain vigilant and ensure the victory of NC candidates in the upcoming elections. Speaking to party workers, he emphasized the importance of unity and perseverance in the face of challenges.
