Army officer killed in Encounter with Militants in Doda : An Army officer, Captain Deepak Singh, was killed in action on Wednesday during an encounter with a group of four terrorists in the Assar area of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. A civilian also sustained injuries in the incident. The Army has initiated an operation to capture the terrorists, one of whom was reportedly wounded during the exchange of fire.

The Army extended its deepest condolences to Captain Singh’s family, acknowledging his sacrifice. The encounter took place in a forested area during a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) launched by a joint security team to locate and neutralize the terrorists believed to be hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt, sources said.

According to sources, the Army had received intelligence about the terrorists’ hideout on Tuesday evening, which led to the engagement with the militants. A brief exchange of fire occurred that night, and the operation resumed the following morning.

This incident comes just a day before Independence Day celebrations, raising security concerns. In response, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a high-level meeting attended by senior officials, including Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, to review the security situation.
