J&K RTI Online Portal Launched by CM Omar Abdullah to Make Information Access Simpler for Citizens

Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today launched the Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information (RTI) Online Portal at the Civil Secretariat, marking a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in governance.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, along with Cabinet Ministers Sakeena Itoo, Javed Ahmad Rana, and Javed Ahmad Dar, attended the launch event.

Senior officers, administrative secretaries, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Dheeraj Gupta, the Chief Minister’s additional chief secretary, were also in attendance.

During his speech, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah commended the officers who worked on the portal’s development and emphasized how it could revolutionize the way citizens apply for RTIs.

“This initiative will provide easy access to government information under the RTI Act, empowering citizens with a faster, more transparent, and cost-efficient mechanism,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also asked the relevant authorities to make sure the initiative is widely publicized so that people in Jammu and Kashmir are aware of its advantages. The portal, which was created by the National Informatics Center (NIC) in Jammu and Kashmir, signals a change from manual to online RTI applications. Citizens no longer need to physically visit government offices in order to submit RTI requests, monitor their status, and receive responses thanks to this transition.

Earlier, M. Raju, Secretary General Administration Department (GAD), gave a presentation on the portal’s features, emphasizing its cost-effectiveness, accessibility, ease of use, processing speed, and role in fostering accountability.

He listed the main features of the portal, such as its robust documentation features, streamlined RTI workflow, and user-friendly interface.
