Brawl over graveyard issue leaves 5 injured in north Kashmir’s Bandipora

Bandipora, Jan 18: In the Bandipora region of north Kashmir’s Aloosa hamlet, a fight over a portion of a cemetery being converted into an Eidgah became violent, injuring at least five people.

Locals claim that a group had built a pulpit to turn a portion of the cemetery into an Eidgah. This infuriated the opposition party, who opposed the plan by complaining to Tehsildar Aloosa.

According to the locals, the Tehsildar ordered the recalcitrant party to report to the police station and gave the Aloosa police officer instructions to investigate the situation after taking cognizance.

However, the situation turned ugly when, on Friday night, the opposing party attempted to paint the pulpit.

When the police arrived to assess the situation, a brawl apparently erupted in which stones and sticks were used. The defending party, displaying irritation, had requested the police to step in.
