Jammu, Feb 28 – In a heroic rescue operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) saved a dumper driver stranded in the middle of the Niki Tawi River after a sudden flash flood submerged his vehicle early this morning.
At around 5:40 AM, an emergency call was received at the Satwari Police Station reporting that a dumper had been caught in rising floodwaters near Shiva Stone Crusher. The driver, identified as Mohan Lal, son of Salik Ram, resident of Om Nagar, Gole Gujral, was seen desperately clinging to the cabin roof of his submerged vehicle, struggling for survival.
Upon receiving the distress alert, senior officers were informed, and Rescue Operation Rudder was swiftly launched by South Zone Police. A police team led by PSI Balbir Singh, in charge of Phallian Mandal Police Post, promptly reached the spot, assessed the critical situation, and assured the trapped driver of a safe rescue. Meanwhile, the specialized SDRF team was requisitioned for assistance.
Without delay, an SDRF team led by ASI Om Parkash arrived at the scene. In a highly coordinated and courageous operation, teams from Satwari Police Station and SDRF successfully pulled Mohan Lal to safety from the turbulent river waters. He was immediately provided first aid and taken to Phallian Mandal Police Post for further medical attention.
The entire rescue mission was supervised by SSP Jammu, SP South, and SDPO South, and executed under the leadership of SHO Satwari and IC PP Phallian Mandal.
The dramatic rescue has earned widespread appreciation from locals, social media users, and the general public, who have lauded the bravery, professionalism, and prompt response of Jammu Police and the SDRF team.
