Rajnath Singh Questions Pakistan’s Nuclear Responsibility, Calls for Global Oversight

Srinagar, May 15 – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s ability to safely manage its nuclear arsenal, suggesting that the country’s weapons should come under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir—his first since the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor—Singh addressed troops and emphasized that the operation had sent a strong message to terrorist groups and their backers in Pakistan, making it clear that no place is safe for them.

“I want to ask the international community: are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of a rogue and irresponsible state like Pakistan?” Singh said. He urged that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal be placed under IAEA monitoring. The IAEA is the global organization responsible for overseeing the peaceful use and safety of nuclear energy.

The Defence Minister is currently reviewing the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. Senior military officials are expected to brief him on the region’s security dynamics and operational preparedness.

The visit comes after a recent escalation in military tensions. On May 7, India conducted precision strikes against terrorist infrastructure. In retaliation, Pakistan launched attacks on Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10. India responded forcefully on May 10, targeting eight Pakistani air bases using missiles and long-range weaponry.

The brief period of hostilities concluded following a ceasefire agreement reached through talks between the Director Generals of Military Operations from both nations on May 10.
