Aga Ruhullah Drops Major Hint at New Political Front, Distances Himself from NC

Sopore, J&K | June 20:
In a significant political development that could reshape the opposition landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar MP and senior National Conference (NC) leader Aga Syed Ruhullah on Friday strongly hinted at launching an independent political platform centered on “credibility” and “accountability.”

Addressing a public gathering at Dak Bungalow Sopore, Ruhullah stated:

“I am looking for those people who will walk with me, bringing accountability to the system, those who will stand for credibility.”

Although he stopped short of formally announcing a new party, his words—and the timing—suggest a clear move toward carving out a separate political identity, distinct from the traditional NC setup.

Adding to the speculation, not a single representative from the NC’s Sopore unit attended the event. The absence of local party functionaries, widely seen as intentional, underscores the deepening rift between Ruhullah and the party’s central leadership.

According to on-ground sources, the Sopore event was organised without any involvement from the National Conference’s district or block structures, pointing to Ruhullah’s growing autonomy.

In recent months, Aga Ruhullah has consistently taken positions that diverge from the NC leadership, particularly on matters related to Jammu and Kashmir’s political status and New Delhi’s policies. His call for a politics rooted in “principles over power” has resonated with sections of the public disillusioned with mainstream parties.

With the Assembly elections on the horizon, Ruhullah’s next steps could prove pivotal. If he formally launches a new platform, it could attract a new wave of political workers and voters seeking alternative leadership in a region undergoing complex transitions.
