Srinagar, June 22 – In a strongly worded statement on the escalating Israel-Iran tensions, senior National Conference leader and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Iran’s ideology is deeply rooted in the legacy of Karbala, and the nation is prepared to make any sacrifice but will never surrender to external pressure.
“Iran draws its inspiration from Karbala. They may get their necks chopped off, but they will not bow to any power. If anyone thinks that Iran will abandon its ambition, they are living in a misconception,” Dr. Abdullah said while addressing a gathering in Srinagar.
The remarks come at a time of heightened hostilities in West Asia, with missile exchanges between Israel and Iran escalating fears of a broader regional conflict. Dr. Abdullah’s statement echoes the sentiment of defiance and resistance often associated with Shia historical narratives, particularly the sacrifice of Imam Hussain in the Battle of Karbala.
While global powers are urging de-escalation, Dr. Abdullah’s comments underline Iran’s firm stance on sovereignty, strategic interests, and ideological resilience.
The veteran Kashmiri leader also urged the international community to work towards peace but stressed that understanding the region’s cultural and religious sentiments is crucial in resolving conflicts.
“Injustice anywhere breeds resistance. The world must act wisely to prevent further bloodshed,” he added.
Dr. Abdullah’s remarks have sparked reactions across political and diplomatic circles, highlighting the deep emotional and ideological dimensions of the Israel-Iran confrontation.
As tensions remain high, voices like Dr. Abdullah’s serve as a reminder of the enduring impact of history, faith, and resistance in shaping modern geopolitical narratives.
