Srinagar, June 27:
Residents of Umer Colony, 90ft Road Soura Srinagar, said they have been struggling with persistent water supply issues, leaving several households with limited access to this essential resource. Despite numerous complaints to the concerned department, the problem remains unaddressed, causing significant inconvenience.
Mohd Yousuf, a resident, shared, “Out of 80 houses, 70 get water 24/7, but 10 houses, including mine, face daily shortages. We’ve been enduring this for six years. Strangely, whenever Jal Shakti staff are present, water flows, but as soon as they leave, the supply stops.”
Tariq Ahmad, another resident, expressed concerns , saying, “We’ve complained repeatedly to the Junior Engineer (JE) and inspector. They visit, take note of the issue, and leave, but nothing improves. Most days, we barely get water for 10 to 30 minutes.”
He also highlighted the disparity between households, with those having older pipeline connections facing severe shortages while newer connections enjoy uninterrupted supply. “This unequal distribution has left us feeling neglected,” he added.
Another resident saying, “Instead of fixing the issue, the Executive Engineer advised us to borrow water from our neighbors. This is not a solution.”
The residents have appealed to the Jal Shakti Minister to step in and ensure equal water supply for all households in the locality.
When contacted, the Assistant Executive Engineer denied the allegations. “Water is supplied to them in the morning and evening. Their claim that 70 houses receive 24/7 water is baseless. We received their application today, and will verify the matter. If there’s a genuine problem, it will be resolved,” he said.
The residents, however, remain unconvinced and await immediate action to address their long-standing issue.
