Several Village Defense Guards (VDC) of Doda district staged a agitation and expressed anger over Doda district administration diktat’s to return their weapons, which was given to them in the peak of terrorism in the 90’s.

One of the protestors told media,” I appeal to local and central govt to stop pestering us over returning the rifles citing reasons of disengagement and death of a VDC.

“BJP provided us these weapons when the terrorism was at its peak and now these arms are being taken away from us. Our renewal files are pending in SSP office. So many applications of people are pending”, he added, “But today the govt is asking us that our weapons are illegal and we have to revert them back”.

“I want to request to BJP to give us these rifles back. I want govt to restore that law which was in practice earlier which says that a VDC after 60 years of  service can keep that weapon in his possession. So many VDCs gave up their lives during terrorism. We want govt to give back our  weapons before the code of conducted here or else we won’t give votes to BJP”, he said.
