'NO TO DRUGS' CAMPAIGN STARTED BY JK MEDIA

The valley of Jammu and Kashmir is known for its insurmountably enchanting beauty, and in fact, there was a time when it was an abode of knowledge called ‘Sharda Peeth’. But unfortunately, in recent times, the ominous clouds of drug related menace have started hovering over it, posing a threat to the valley’s youth and their future. The gullible youth is getting unknowingly entranced to the danger lurking around them. Such is their dependence on these harmful drugs, that even after spending time behind the bars, their drug trapped souls, when they come out of the jail, they again get indulged in their previous activities of consuming drugs by any sort. In fact, many youngsters are dying due to overdosage of drugs while others are committing suicides. Around 43 suicides took place near the Srinagar city ( once called the nagar of Mata Laxmi ) signaling the rising danger of drugs and emotional turmoil. Still many youngsters, unaware of drug hazards, choose it as an option to distress themselves and thus ruin their lives apart, perishing their existence.

UDTA JAMMU KASHMIR – THE VALLEY SINKING IN QUAGMIRE OF DRUG ENSLAVEMENT

Around 33,000 syringes are being used everyday in the valley to inject heroin ( the noxious form of drugs that is highly expensive ). Due to this, large – scale theft activities are taking place in temples and mosques as victims are getting totally addicted and in dire need to buy it, they take extreme steps. With the innocent children of the valley getting fixated on having drugs, they take a toll on the happiness of their own family by not only stealing and robbing them of money, but also their parents’ precious hopes and desires that they had long accumulated since the birth of their child.

Bringing in front this gruesome issue, JK Media interacted with an eminent personality standing for this cause, Dr. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Appreciating the channel’s initiative for the betterment of the society, Dr. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the government should take adequate measures and check out who is behind the high supply network of drugs in the valley. He said that in spite of a high Security force present in the valley the drug peril is at its peak. He also asserted that parents should try to be more considerate towards their children, and try to inculcate in them the quality of discernment. Coming out of social – stigma and doing the needful by bringing the distracted youth back on the right track should be the priority by establishing more rehabilitation centres. A comprehensive policy should be made to end the drug addiction and social stigma involved. Along with this, monitoring and surveillance of catchment areas that include schools, colleges, coaching centres and universities should be done to uproot the drug menace.

WAY FORWARD AS PER THE EXPERT

IDENTIFY THE SELLERS

Stringent laws should be made and whosoever is involved in selling these drugs should be given a severe punishment for ruining the society and its future.

ENDING THE SOCIAL STIGMA AND RAISING THE NUMBER OF REHABILITATION CENTRES

Awareness should be made and victims should be introduced to rehabilitation centres thus giving them a chance to reestablish their identity.

WORKING IN COORDINATION

Mohalla Committees, Masjid Committees, NGOs and volunteers should come forward and work in coordination, setting campaigns and making initiatives to bring awareness among the masses.

NOT OVER PRESSURISE THE STUDENTS

Right now there is a cut throat competition in academics and in order to get the best in everything, parents should not pressurise their children and try to know their interests in different fields instead.

At the end, Dr. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq concluded by saying that every individual will be asked by the lord at the end of their lives about the responsibilities they were provided. So everyone in the valley, irrespective of their background, should come forward to bring an end to the drug menace once and for all.

As part of its campaign JK Media will be covering the topic related to drug menace in the valley every Saturday in evening at 6:30 pm and every Sunday in morning at 10:30 am on Gulistan Channel.
