Schools Closed: J&K And Various Other Districts Have Extended Winter Vacations

Intense cold waves and heavy fog are affecting several Indian states. In places like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, and Jammu and Kashmir, winter vacations are currently in place.

The majority of North Indian schools are expected to reopen on January 15, 2025, after the joyous holidays of Makar Sankranti on January 14 and Lohri on January 13, due to the ongoing harsh weather.

However, because of persistent cold wave warnings and dense fog alerts from the Meteorological Department, the winter vacation has been prolonged in several regions.

Uttar Pradesh Holidays

Ghaziabad Schools Holidays

Schools in the Delhi suburbs of Noida and Ghaziabad are currently shuttered. Online classes are being offered by numerous Noida schools to cover the curriculum. While school employees are still required to appear for duty, all Ghaziabad schools, ranging from Class 1 to Class 8, will remain closed until January 18, 2025. Gorakhpur School Holidays

All public, private, and Anganwadi educational establishments in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, would be closed until January 14, 2025. The first day of classes will be January 15, 2025.

Noida School Holidays

Schools in Noida, ranging from preschool to class 8, would stay closed until further notice due to the persistent cold and fog.

Lucknow School Holidays

Suryapal Gangwar, the district magistrate of Lucknow, has extended the school holidays for pupils in Classes 1 through 8 until January 14, 2025, due to the current cold wave. Gangwar added that if needed, online instruction may be offered. Students in classrooms 9 through 12 will continue to attend classrooms, and in the absence of holidays, online instruction will be offered.

Delhi Schools Holidays

The Delhi government’s holiday list states that until January 15, 2025, all public and private schools in the city will be closed for winter break. It is anticipated that schools will reopen on Thursday, January 16, 2025. The holidays might be prolonged further, though, if the cold spell persists if the city is still shrouded in fog.

Rajasthan Schools Holidays

Schools in several districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Dausa, Sikar, Bundi, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Pali, Beawar, Dholpur, and Jhalawar, will remain closed until January 14 for classes up to 8 due to the cold wave. Classes for 9 to 12 will have revised timings starting at 10 AM.

Tamil Nadu School And College Holidays

In Tamil Nadu, schools will remain closed until January 20, 2025, due to the Pongal festival. This holiday also extends to colleges and government offices. Some private schools are also closed on January 13, 2025.

Telangana School Holidays

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has announced holidays for all intermediate colleges in the state in celebration of Makar Sankranti. The holidays began on January 11 and will continue through January 16, 2025. Classes will resume on January 17, 2025.

Himachal Pradesh Holidays

Winter vacations have been announced for all schools, lasting from January 1 to February 1, 2025.

Jammu And Kashmir School Holidays

In Jammu and Kashmir, schools for Classes 6 through 12 will be closed from December 16, 2024, to February 28, 2025, while schools up to Class 5 will be closed from December 10, 2024, to February 28, 2025.
