PM Modi inaugurates much-awaited Sonamarg tunnel

Srinagar, Jan 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the much-awaited Z-Morh tunnel at Sonamarg.

Sources told that the Prime Minister, together with Union Ministers Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other officials, officially opened the tunnel this afternoon.

From the East Portal, the Sonamarg Tunnel was inaugurated.

Following the opening, the Prime Minister took a tour of the tunnel with the other Union Ministers, the J&K LG, and the Chief Minister. They will drive straight to the main arena after exploring the tunnel.

Importantly, the 6.5-kilometer Z-Morh Tunnel is set to enable year-round access to Sonamarg from Srinagar, an accomplishment that was previously impeded by severe winter weather.

Although it started in May 2015, the Z-Morh Tunnel project was delayed.
