Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Visits Srinagar to Assess Security, Meet Troops

Srinagar: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Thursday for a one-day visit focused on evaluating the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and engaging with troops stationed at the frontlines.

According to defence officials, Singh will consult with senior Army commanders and heads of security agencies to assess the current security dynamics, especially in light of recent border tensions with Pakistan and renewed infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC).

The minister is scheduled to lead key meetings with top Northern Command officers, Jammu and Kashmir administration officials, and intelligence representatives. Discussions are expected to cover border defence, anti-militancy efforts in both South and North Kashmir, and infrastructure upgrades in forward areas.

Singh will also speak to soldiers stationed in high-risk and elevated regions, expressing appreciation for their dedication and aiming to boost morale.

“This visit reflects the central government’s strong focus on national security and the welfare of military personnel. The Defence Minister’s engagement with the troops is a powerful message of support and acknowledgment,” a senior official stated.

The timing of the visit is crucial, coming ahead of the Amarnath Yatra and amid ongoing efforts to reinforce internal security in the Valley. Additional security evaluations may take place, focusing on coordination between the armed forces and local authorities.

Singh is also expected to assess progress on key strategic initiatives, including bunker construction and road development in border areas essential for both civilian access and military logistics.

This marks his first trip to Kashmir since the recent escalation along the LoC.
