The Special Commissioner of Police for Delhi most likely to be Vijay Kumar

SRINAGAR: Vijay Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order in Jammu and Kashmir, is set to take over as the Special Commissioner of Police in Delhi, reports told.

After five years of service in the Kashmir Valley, Kumar takes on his new position at a time when crime and gang-related violence in the nation’s capital have turned into a divisive issue between the Center and the state government led by the AAP. The Union Home Ministry has control over the Delhi Police.

Shortly after the Center revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and reorganized it into two Union Territories, Kumar, an AGMUT cadre 1997-batch IPS officer, was named Inspector General of Police, Kashmir in December 2019. Before this, he oversaw anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh and successfully held a general election in South Bastar in 2019 without any incidents.
