Srinagar: Six individuals have been charged and detained for making derogatory remarks and trying to incite sectarian unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.

Six miscreants have been prosecuted under sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS and are being held at central jail, Srinagar, for using disparaging language to incite sectarian disturbance, according to a post on X by Srinagar police.

According to the authorities, anyone caught doing similar illegal actions, such as distributing or posting sectarian content with the intention of causing division or upsetting public peace, will suffer the same consequences.

Earlier, the police said they had taken cognisance of the incident and that some people were being questioned after the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir expressed “grave concern” about criticism of the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) esteemed associates.
