J&K Govt Directs Inclusion of Children Aged 6+ and Left-Out Beneficiaries in PDS

Jammu, May 6: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday issued a directive for the inclusion of children aged six years and above, along with other eligible individuals who were previously left out, into the Public Distribution System (PDS) across the Union Territory.

As per an official order from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, children who have turned six or are older should now be added to the PDS under their family’s respective category—AAY, PHH, NPHH, or Exclusion ration cards.

The order further emphasized that any eligible individuals who have not yet been covered by the PDS should be enrolled in accordance with established norms.

Additionally, the directive states that widows or divorcees who are not yet part of the PDS should be issued separate ration cards under the appropriate category (PHH, NPHH, or Exclusion), based on their financial condition and in line with NFSA guidelines, to ensure they receive support under the system.
